2,000 COVID safe Christmas lunches for the homeless and needy

by Team Bill 25 Dec 2020
More than 2,000 takeaway Christmas lunches will be given to the homeless and needy by The Rev. Bill Crews Foundation today.

Despite COVID-19 threatening to make Christmas even tougher than usual for the most disadvantaged, Rev. Bill Crews and his team will bring joy to thousands of needy Sydneysiders in the form of delicious takeaway Christmas meals, served COVID safe.

The homeless have done it tough
“We’re determined not to let COVID-19 be the Christmas grinch”, explained the Foundation’s director Rev. Bill Crews. “The homeless and needy have suffered more than most this year, so our takeaway lunch is designed to bring joy to their Christmas Day.”

Each takeaway Christmas meal will include ham, turkey, veggies and pudding. Plus, there will also be presents for everybody, especially the kids.

Caring for their health

Rev. Crews says he and his team have a special duty of care to the homeless, many of whom are vulnerable to COVID-19.

“We’ll have masks and sanitiser for everyone and there will be COVID marshals to ensure everybody maintains their social distance”, he said.

Re-imagining Christmas Day

Indeed, what is usually Sydney’s biggest sit-down Christmas lunch for the homeless and needy has been entirely transformed, with the help of NSW Health. This year the event has been made officially COVID safe. Guests will be guided through the Foundation’s grounds to collect their takeaway meals and presents rather than eating on-site.
