DESCRIPTION
The Rev. Bill Crews Foundation (‘BCF’) is one of Sydney’s largest frontline charities and has been operating for 38 years. Our mission is to provide assistance to address the cause and effect of homelessness and poverty faced by marginalised individuals. We succeed in achieving this through a combination of caring services like food provision, social welfare and education support.
ABOUT THE LITERACY PROGRAM
The Rev. Bill Crews Foundation (BCF) has been empowering children through literacy for over 20 years. Our literacy programs operate in primary schools across NSW and the Northern Territory, helping students who have fallen behind in reading to regain confidence and achieve their full potential. Using the All About Reading program and other tailored resources, we create a fun, fast-paced and supportive learning environment to bring students back up to grade level.
THE ROLE
We’re currently seeking a Literacy Instructor to join our team. As a Literacy Instructor, you will deliver our evidence-based literacy program to students in Years 2–6. This fixed-term, part-time role is 4 days per week and involves supporting schools across Sydney, including Bexley, Chullora and potentially Western Sydney. As the role requires travel between school locations, a willingness and ability to travel is essential.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Reporting to the Programs Coordinator, you will be responsible for:
- Deliver structured and engaging literacy sessions using proven resources and methods.
- Plan lessons, set weekly objectives and measure student progress.
- Conduct regular assessments and maintain accurate records of attendance and performance.
- Collaborate with school staff and the NSW Literacy Program Coordinator to support students needs.
- Write student reports and help organise end of semester graduations.
- Test and allocate new students based on their individual needs.
- Prepare and organise learning materials and resources.
- Undertake training to ensure high-quality delivery of the program
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
To be considered for the position, you will have:
- Bachelor of Education (Primary), Certificate IV in Education Support or related qualification.
- Experience working with children with diverse needs and cultural backgrounds.
- Strong understanding of phonics-based instruction and child-centred teaching methods.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel etc).
- Willingness to travel.
- A collaborative mindset with the ability to build positive relationships with school staff and colleagues
