Rev. Bill Crews and the team of volunteers will give the hungry a very special Easter Sunday roast lunch with all the trimmings.
"There will be hot food, Easter eggs and kindness for everyone. It’ll be the sort of free lunch we’re famous for!", said Rev. Bill Crews - founder of The Rev. Bill Crews Foundation.
A Sydney Easter story
Hundreds of hungry Sydneysiders will gather to celebrate Easter with the volunteers at The Rev. Bill Crews Foundation.
Those volunteers come from all walks of life, but they have one thing in common: A drive to help the less fortunate. Indeed, many of the volunteers are from Sydney’s Jewish community. According to Rev. Bill Crews it’s an example of interfaith solidarity.
A church for rough sleepers
Prior to the lunch, Rev. Bill Crews will hold his traditional Easter Sunday church service for the homeless.
"Lots of rough sleepers feel like they are outsiders, like the pomp and splendour of the cathedrals isn’t for them. So I welcome them at my church in Ashfield. After all, it’s what Jesus would have done", said Rev. Crews.
The Rev. Bill Crews Foundation is one of Sydney’s largest frontline charities. It has served over 1.1 million meals to the hungry since the onset of the pandemic.
